Would my amateur telescope be any good??

Out by the Kingman State Fishing Lake there’s primitive camping and much better viewing (less light pollution) than near the city. I wonder what the chances are they’ll be visible at all

OOH thanks for the tip!

@URUKim Terrorscopes are always good

@Sherry Good point! It would be a total bummer to go enjoy a beautiful spring night if the meteors failed to show up

@squarenuts try convincing an 11 yr old of that at 2 AM . The last time she and I pitched our tent there were 40 mph winds. I have to balance effort and reward better. I don’t have anywhere to be Tuesday so I’m seriously considering it.

I think it sounds fun, but won’t be holding my breath for meteors. The stars and a little quiet ought be plenty. Besides, I’ve not set tent and peg for far too long.

I don’t have any camping equipment, but it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve slept in my van with the sun/moon(?) roof.

Honestly it’s easier sleeping in a van. When I drove an Odyssey it was my go to for winter falconry meets.

Camping is scary so I may not stay the night.

But if y’all set this up let me know! I love astronomy, it’s how my puppy got her name.

I’m doing it, and Kingman fishing lake sounds perfect.
Further planning in the garden tomorrow?

@Sherry That’s what I have, an Odyssey.

Yup. I’m in.

Do you want to camp at Kingman? There’s a small area on the east side that’s marked for camping. I think there are quite a few trees there so I’d probably pitch a tent and if the view weren’t enough just find a different spot in the park - maybe in the public hunting area of Byron Walker that’s continuous - to plop a chair. It doesn’t have much for amenities so bring wet wipes and plenty of water.

@squarenuts I will be on a flight back from Orlando at 11 so fill me in on any decisions. Annelise just nodded OK when I asked her so she’s stuck whether she was listening to me or her music :joy:

I also have a spare tent if anyone wants to borrow it. @Noahjwc @URUKim and if Annelise and I pitch our tent instead of sleeping in the pickup bed it’s plenty big enough for two extra people

Sure. Should I bring food or something? Is this like going to a burn?

Is the area dog friendly?

Probably just whatever you want to eat. Dogs need to be on leash in public use areas but yes they’re allowed. I’ll probably hunt rabbits in Byron Walker before we meet up so mine will chill.

Kingman State Fishing Lake is west of Kingman and is a 2 on the Bortle scale of sky brightness. Cheney/Afton are more like 3-4

I’m sorry. I want to, but I might not be there tomorrow. I’ll have to wait and see. Anxiety is through the roof today.
