I saw this crew at work and they:
- Had a better time than I thought possible testing adhesives
- Did a great job, and
- Have great ideas to make the donor wall even better and to recognize those who contribute to MakeICT in other ways as well.
Kudos!

Well, I think the results were pretty conclusive… A little bit of green frog tape on the back of a sign and then hot glue worked incredibly well!
To complete the test, I took the largest sign on the wall and hung kilogram spools of filament off of it. I got up to 8 kg (just under 20 lb) before the sign came off. There was no damage to the paint from the glue!
Thanks so much Brad and Dan for the help today, the wall looks great and I really like the prospects of hot glue!
And even if it fails we know it’ll be easy to get a sign back up because Brad is a very enthusiastic hot glue-er!
Yes… 60% of my projects are 80% hot glue.
Thanks @Jojo for the suggestion that allowed me to publicly get my glue on!
Im so glad you had fun getting your glue on!
I was happy to help with getting the signs put back up. I think the project turned out looking really great. Now it’s time for more signs to be made and added to the collection.
Hi everyone, I’ve learned two things since 2023. First, hot glue works for a few months, but signs still fall down. We tried.
Second, many donors actually don’t want their name to be 2ft wide, and my signs were taking up a lot of space, so I’d like to go with a smaller solution. 1/4 cinder block size for donations say… $500-$5000, and a full block for over $5000?
SO I’m switching gears again and making vinyl signs that take up less space. They might still come unstick. We’ll see!
Still open to feedback and still trying to low-key get out of the whole project, I kept thinking if I did a bad enough job somebody else would take it but still no luck! So the journey continues…
I wonder if we could get a magnetic board/metal sheet up on that wall and make all the donor thingies have magnets on them? Easy to move or take down and there would only need to be like…4-6 screws to hold it up depending on the size?
It would be fun to be able to rearrange…
Dang, that would have been a great suggestion a month ago.
I’ve made quite a few vinyl signs now but if they don’t work I’ll do magnets next!
Magnets is a great idea. However the new vinyl stickers you have up so far look great!
Are you cleaning the surface before applying the stickers? Alcohol wipes maybe? Any dust/oil would definitely shorten the adhesive lifespan.
Great work so far!
I especially like the logo!
