Are we going to announce award categories? Do we have award categories? Will we do a crowd favorite as well?
updated the wiki with awards considerations that have been discussed.
I could probably use some help laser cutting out the awards from cardboard. It’d be pretty slick if we could do something like @KatieOfConrad 's robots on a little sailboat. Nothing super crazy, but it’d be nice to have the name of the event, year, MakeICT, and the reason for the award on it somewhere.
I can look for something or try designing something. It would probably be a good thing to practice on my Cricut Maker
I would love to draw a cute little boating robot for this.
Go for it.
Thanks for the FB post! I shared it and am trying to drum up interest on my side…or at least recruit some teammates.
What’s funny is i have a bunch of folks from Texas who want to plan a trip for it for next year!!
Are cardboard tubes good? It doesn’t 100% specify and we don’t want to be disqualified
Cardboard tubes are fine as long as they’re not waxed
Here’s a little cut out to put on top of a trophy. I did some separate wave cut outs to stick in front and behind the main image.
I didn’t find a cardboard cutout for an award, but I do have some cardboard tubes and we can fashion a cardboard base and put this on top the base on the bottom.
We have a woodshop and a metal shop. I haven’t kept up with this as I don’t not if I’ll even be in town to participate. So maybe that’s been suggested. Or maybe there isn’t time. How many trophies are needed? Maybe making trophies or at least the bases could be my contribution
We wanted them to be made of cardboard. Sticking to the theme. If you want to make some go for it.
I would have made them from metal or wood. I’ve got no ideas for cardboard so I guess disregard.
Cool, I can maybe come up with a cutout for a base as well if needed, but it would probably need to be hot glued together since I am not great at coming up with clever slotting together designs. Also, I will probably adjust the hand slightly so it doesn’t be so flimsy once it is cut.
I am open to other materials for the base. Especially with all the acrylic sitting in the boiler room and all those 3d printers.
I think there are also several dozen black award bases sitting either in the maintenance or in the welcome desk area that might look sharp.
If you know anyone with a lom, you could use it to 3d print some paper/cardboard awards
A friend of mine has told me stories about stuff they “printed” on the lom at beech. 3d printing before 3d printing was cool!
You could have a fancy trophy that gets a name and a little cardboard one to take home…
So … Another thread close to 100 posts…
