Higher temps brings taller weeds. Piper Thomas and the garden committee have been hard at it chopping down weeds and cleaning up the courtyard area, as well as around most of the building. That does mean the dumpster is a bit full at the moment, but there’s still quiet a bit more to do.
We’re likely going to have to hire an arborist to trim up the trees along the creek as well the other tall trees, but we still need to knock down the weeds along the sidewalks and curbs on Mt. Vernon and Drollinger.
There’s a lot on the plates for the garden committee and facilities, so if you’ve thought about volunteering outside, this is a good opportunity to make a difference. Piper will be out there on Monday if you’re looking for guidance on what to do around the garden. Facilities should be there Tuesday afternoon. There’s an edger in facilities along with a weed eater if you don’t want to bring your equipment along. Jim Barth and John Cummings can help show you how to start the edger.
Thanks for doing that guys. It will help us make a good impression.
Made some good progress today… still a bit of work to do cleaning up the sidewalks, but yard is mowed. I took the brush hog to the remaining weeds as well as took the edger along the sidewalk for Mt. Vernon and all the curbs.
I’m pretty amazed that John has managed to tune up all of the equipment to he one pull starts. It really puts me in a better mindset when i’m not fighting to get equipment running.
It’d definitely be nice if there was a 2nd set of hands out helping with the yard stuff. Doing the work alone is peaceful, but it’s easy to fall into the thoughts of when Aaron Rivers and Joe Birzer would come out randomly and just start helping in some way. It was nice though when John Cummings came out and talked me into taking a break before he left to grab lunch.
If you are up for helping with the yard work, please let me know and we can try to coordinate keeping the outside looking nice.
Thank for spending your Saturday morning making the place look good Rustin.
Spent a couple more hours today before the heat hit 100F. Managed to run the edger along the sidewalk along with the weed eater. Also took a minute to trim up one of the trees and the tree stump… there’s definitely a colony of red ants in the tree by Drollinger…
If someone has a spare moment and wants to help, we still need to move the brush pile to a better spot. I’m not sure if the pile is something that should be added to the compost pile.
The east entrance looks a lot nicer, but we may want to run the edger and weed eater again in a couple weeks to trim back reemergent weeds.
The cleanup wasn’t all the rough, but it took about 10hrs over 3 days to get to this point. It might reduce the amount of work it takes to keep up if we get back to maintaining the landscaping on a monthly basis.
I’ll be around there at 7/7:30pm tomorrow and am willing to help out if that works for you.
If it’s not over 100 degrees at 7pm tomorrow I’ll take you up on that, but it sounds like tomorrow is suppose to hit a record high.
At least we can try moving over those branches.
I’m sorry, but at this time we already have too many browns in the compost. I’m not sure what else to do with the branches besides throw them in a dumpster or have someone haul them off.
It’s all good dude, we ask to clarify and verify.
Thank you Kevin for the help tonight!
We cleaned up the trash along Mt. Vernon and moved all the brush to the dumpster, which is full again…
