Wild sunflowers (gathering seed)

I’ve been watching these sunflowers grow out of ground disturbed last year. Decided to gather seed. Such a great plant for birds and bees! I hope to plant them next year and save $ on bird food. I think these are helianthus petiolarus, prairie sunflower.

Cut the heads and let them dry a few days and shake heads in a jar and seeds fall into jar.

I was wondering how they would do as a micro green?

Thats a good idea probably very good as microgreens. I’m freezing the seed now to kill any bugs. I can get you a sample if you want

Sounds great! The sunflower population was much smaller along our road this year, likely because of the lack of rain.

I couldn’t believe these grew 9 feet tall on a dry pile of dirt the utility company dug up! They must have been in the seed bank.
