No problem. I tweaked my back and am not feeling well myself.

Hi LaDeana, and all the guitar builders,

Because of my interest in FreeCAD, I monitor the FreeCAD developerā€™s group on Discord. Recently there was a discussion of what the new splashscreen should look like for the coming v0.22 (ā€œv1.00ā€?) release. One of the posts was by a FreeCAD dev who also created a Guitar Design WorkBench (WB) add-on for FreeCAD. He (jokingly) posted his proposed splashsceen, apologizing for blowing his own horn because it featured guitar CAD images. I saw his proposed splashscreen and thought you guys might be interested. Here it is in two screenshots, (1) in the original Discord size with text, and (2) picture only after ā€œclick to embiggenā€:

Hereā€™s his GitHub page (although you shouldnā€™t need GitHub to install the Guitar Design WB, it should be installable with a click via FCā€™s built-in Add-On Manager). Heā€™s posted updates to the Guitar Design WB as recently as today (Aug 2024), before that, in May 2024.

Hereā€™s a YouTube video (6 mins, 3 yrs old) by a reviewer, and two more by the Guitar Design WB creator himself, first (15 mins, 4 yrs old), and second (22 mins, 1 yr old).

The FreeCAD Forum also has a Guitar Design Workbench discussion section.

Iā€™ve been thinking of offering an ā€œIntroduction to FreeCADā€ course, maybe this Guitar Design WB add-on will stir up some interest. Due to ongoing scheduling conflicts I canā€™t offer it on Wednesdays after 6pm, Fridays after 5pm, and Saturdays before 5pm. But if you have any other times youā€™d like to suggest, please let me know. Thanks!

Kim Kirwan

Sorry to reply to my own post, but it just occurred to me that if I can make it to the next Guitar Meetup, Iā€™d be happy to do an abbreviated class (20 minutes?) on how to install FreeCAD and the Guitar WB, and how to do basic things in the Guitar WB. The next Guitar Meetup on the calendar is not until Tuesday, Sept. 3, 7pm. Iā€™ll plan to be there in case asked, or, some other time is OK too.

Cool. Iā€™m sure that would be interesting. We might be in the shop that week making thingsā€¦ at least that is what I expect.

Hi Wichita Folks! Iā€™m looking to move to Wichita and was thrilled to see you have a great makerspace at MakeICT. And you have a guitar building group. Iā€™ve been a maker since way back and currently CNC work is my main interest with a focus on building guitars and guitar parts. When I do relocate I hope MakeICT will accept me as a member and Iā€™ll get to meet all of you.

Awesome! Hope you get to move here!

Iā€™ve been doing a lot of research on using our ShopBot to craft guitar necks. It seems to be the method used by most professional/mass-market manufacturers these days, and it would definitely make for more efficient project times.

Im interested, how can i be down. I can supply the wood for a class.

I could make a CAD model for a neck easy enough. We need to get someone who has done some NC on the shopbot in 3D to help with that part.
