Like a cicada but not. Anyone know?

Google lens points to the pupa of a Green Cutworm Moth .

@Jesse As large as it is I’d say it’s a sphynx moth (tomato or tobacco hornworm) chrysalis.

it is your choice as to method of dealing with this living creature.

Many would find this of no benefit, while someone else, a tasty snack.

When you dig in the soil, you find many interesting things.

My yard is still spitting up golf balls, toys, and relics of past generations.

There are multiple species of sphynx moths in our area. The white lined sphynx moths I videoed last year in the pollinator garden (flying like hummingbirds) are one of them. They can eat tomatoes or other plants.

Just to clarify, The larva or caterpillar eat the foliage and fruit , not the moth. The moth will be emerging from that pupae. The moth is a pollinator.

But if you see moth, the worms will follow.
