Weird Question

The doo-hickey that connects to the window in my car has decided that it will function when operating the drivers window, but not the passenger window. Is this something that could be brought to electronics for training to troubleshoot??

Thank you for Understanding my super high tech language here.

It probably won’t do any good to bring it to Electronics, as it is likely just a switch module, and it’s probably good. It’s usually better to troubleshoot the whole system as a unit. Also, a frequent cause of power window problems is the cable harness at the driver’s door hinge bending back and forth until wires start breaking (internally, invisibly). But hey, I could be wrong, if you bring the switch module in, we can certainly test it for you.

Depending on the vehicle, all windows go through the driver’s door switch. If it fails, it can cause that symptom.

The window works fine with its own button… it’s the drivers control of the window that has quit… while the drivers window control still works… just curious to learn how the switch works and what to look for when troubleshooting

Again, depends on the vehicle

Did you check that the lockout for kids is off? Maybe that is also affecting the passenger one.

Ok… here’s what Gemini thinks:
This issue is most likely related to the driver’s side power window switch. Since the passenger side switch works, the window motor and regulator are likely in good condition. The driver’s side switch has control over both windows and can fail, causing the passenger window to not work from that side. Before replacing the switch, you could try a simple reset procedure. This involves closing all doors and windows, then using the key in the door lock to lock the car and hold the key in the lock position for a few seconds. This might reset the system and resolve the issue.

This video is relevant as it shows the process of replacing the driver’s side window switch, which is a likely solution for the described problem.
