Unlocked window 12-31-24

I’ve suggested it before, but could we paint one side of the lever green and the other side orange to make it easier to tell that a window in unlocked? It’s hard enough getting people to even walk the building to look for open or unlocked windows and doors, let alone actually going into the room and looking at the windows. I know this wouldn’t solve all the world’s problems, but it’s a small step that might help a little. When I’ve suggested this in the past, I think we did what we do and the discussion went off the deep end with adding stuff for automatic detection of open windows. I’m certainly not opposed to that sorry if thing but maybe this would help.

I think we all pretty much agreed that the paint was a fine idea, and even beneficial if we wanted to put some “Smart” solution for verification. However, we couldn’t figure out how to get around the curtains. Given the problem generally is brought up in summer when the windows are being used more frequently, we couldn’t just take them down. If you have to go in and check anyway, people would still not do it.

I walk the exterior searching for unlocked windows. This one was locked yesterday when I checked.

Thanks for the reminder. I think you’re right - it’s the curtains that get in the way.

Maybe this was discussed before… Actually I think it was and was dismissed as a fire hazard, though I don’t see it as such. Can we lock all except 2 or 3 windows in each room, leaving only those 2 or 3 to be opened and hem the curtains for those window shorter to allow the lock to be seen?

Next time I’m at the store, I’ll look for some neon green and orange paint unless there are other colors that might be better. I know that some people are color blind but I don’t recall what colors overlap, if that’s a concern

Red and green are the most common color blindness (10% of men have it). Some are also green-brown, like my Dad.

Thanks. I am hoping orange and green are visible enough with the lights off to easily see one or the other. In the dark, I’m afraid neon green and yellow might look the same
