I have some acrylic that I’d like to form into a cylinder but using my heat gun doesn’t provide even heating and I’d like to try a different approach.
What is your question? Are you asking if a toaster oven will heat acrylic? Yes it will. Are you asking if we have one? Yes we do. We also have a couple of powder coating ovens and the range in the kitchen.
How big is the piece of acrylic? How will you support it after it becomes soft and floppy? We also somewhere have (or had) a vacuum forming setup that has a heating element that would probably do what you are asking.
After re-reading my post, you’re right that I wasn’t very clear. I meant to ask if Make ICT has a toaster oven. I wouldn’t want to use one that food is heated in. I didn’t think about the vacuum former. That might work. The larger piece is about 9x13.
There is, last I recall, a toaster oven in the hot shop used for powder coating small items. 9x13 might not fit. If the vacuum former doesn’t work, one of the powder coating ovens ought to, if you can control the plastic after it’s soft.
The small toaster oven in the hot shop is slightly larger than 12"x14” and is located on the wire racks along the East wall.
