Thoughts on new Classes for Textile Studio

Hello Everyone. I am working on getting the ‘Teach a Class’ class completed. I am excited to share my love for knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. We also have an awesome vintage Toyota knitting machine that I plan to get my hands on as well, among other manual looms.

I’d like to gauge interest in classes for this area of the textile studio.

To get us started, I am thinking an intro class to knitting, crocheting, and hand embroidery would be great. Once I can get my hands on the knitting machine, classes can come for that guy as well.

The sock loom is fun too and would make for an awesome multi-class session. I even had ChatGPT help me make a plan for more sock looms to take to woodshop (we can easily make them). I will need help though:slight_smile:

I would like to know your interest, your skill levels, what kind of project you would like to make, if you want to bring your own supplies, have supplies provided to you, what cost value you see on an intro class, should they be multi-session classes, and really any thing you want to share. Also, beyond intro classes, what more advanced topics would you like to see?

Other areas I have an interest in sharing:

  • needle-turn appliqué (I am new to this, but picked it up like it’s in my epigenetics lol)
  • weaving
  • macrame
  • upcycling
  • textile art
  • searching and finding public domain/creative commons materials (patterns, motifs, old books, software, manuals, all kinds of fun stuff)

Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

Hey Jessica,
It is awesome that you are gonna teach some classes!
I am not much of a woodworker, but I can make some pretty cool stuff with a laser cutter (which is pretty fast). If you have the particulars of what you need, give me some dimensions, and I will whip up a 3D model for it… and maybe when you come for class, we can whip up a prototype.
I can do single, double and triple crochet stitches and have toyed around with whipping up small animals of my own design with mixed results. I have tried knitting, but crochet is too easy for me for that to stick :). Last time I did any weaving or macrame, it was the 70’s… so only vague memories.

I love the idea of a prototype! I’ll get you the info needed :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

These ideas sound fun! I love to crochet and can whip up blankets and scarves, but amigurumi is a challenge for me. I’d also welcome an embroidery class. It’s been years since I did it. A class and project would be great to get back into it.
