I made a solenoid motor based on plans found online. Some 3d printed parts, some salvaged electronics, some turned aluminum (flywheel). It runs on 12vdc and is quite smooth.

That is intriguing. Anybody got an old variac from a model train kit. Heck i might… but … not sure if i can find it.
