I frequent the ceramics room and have some questions about possibly 3D printing some custom stamps to use on clay.
My grandma passed earlier this year after battling Parkinson’s, and I’d like to explore making ceramic ornaments with her handwriting. I have an image of what I’d like, I just have absolutely 0 experience with 3D printing and am obviously getting close on time.
Secondly, I would like to make a small stamp to mark my pieces with. This one is lower priority but I figured it might make sense to get them both done at the same time.
Any advice or guidance would be super appreciated, thank you!
How big are you thinking? And how deep would you want the imprint to be?
First thing would be to convert her writing to SVG if you haven’t already done so. From there it’s pretty quick for someone to churn it out as a 3D file.
Not very big, it’s just “I love you” in her writing. I’m thinking maybe about 2-3" wide, and it doesn’t need to be very deep. I believe most pottery stamps are about 1-3mm deep. I do have it converted to an SVG, I’ll try to attach it here but I have no idea if it will let me.
I might recommend that when you add a draft angle to the solid you choose so it is easier to slip out of the clay. If you get a model made in fusion or onshape, I can show you how to do that. Also remember the text will need to be reversed.
