Simple toy for my grandson

NAME YOUR PROJECT!
Kefa’s Light Grenade

What is it, and what does it do?
It is an old medicine bottle that now has rainbow-colored LEDs inside.

Why are you making it?
Because it is hypnotic for a 10-month old. He’s fascinated, therefore quiet. I sleep. Perfect.

Post some pictures, and/or build log that sucker RIGHT HERE!
update your post with it’s progress!

Not much for a build log. I just took a cell phone power bank and tapped into the 5V output. That went to three rainbow LEDs in parallel, each accompanied by a series 82 ohm 1/4 watt resistor. All of that controlled by a push-button latching switch. Mounted the switch in the childproof cap and shoved the rest inside. All the wires and connections show through the plastic and also give him something to puzzle over. Now I’ve got a toy that’s cheap to make and occupies his attention at home or in the car. I can also add a little piezo buzzer or offset-weighted motor to vibrate later on if I like.

By using a power bank, when the batteries run down I can just open it up and plug in a micro-usb cable to recharge it. I expect it to run 5-10 hours between charges.

Build cost:
Old aspirin bottle FREE
Used Switch FREE
Phone power bank $2.00
LEDs $0.15
====
Total cost $2.15

You should teach a class

I suppose I could do that.
