Good morning folks,
I’ve pushed out a page on the Wiki about “Scholarship Guidelines” as we have approved three of them this board term.
Things I wanted to elaborate on but not put in the wiki:
- We need to send everyone seeking a scholarship through the same, clear process.
- We need to recognize a scholarship is only a $15/month hit to finances so it should have very low barriers, especially for an initial 3-6 month term. It does not need big hoops or long discussions. Keep it simple.
- We do not need an upper bound on the amount of scholarships we offer. It is effectively 1% of membership now and I would argue more engaged people are worth more to the space than what the scholarship costs.
- We should pretty strongly encourage teaching of classes and selling of items to cover dues but not make those mandatory.
- This does not cover sponsorships. I don’t really know how I feel about those with respect to patronage, and if you really wanted to pay for someone else’s membership, there’s ways to do it that can’t be stopped.
