Quickie(?) Laser Cutter Project

I’d like to cut a pattern out of sheet metal to adorn my fireplace screen. Questions:

  1. Where could I obtain some raw material?
  2. Would anyone be willing to donate their presence and authorization to have my design cut?

Our laser cutter can’t cut metals. The plasma cutter in the metal shop would be a better bet

There are 2 metalshop safety classes and a CNC plasma class coming up in August.

You should totally learn to cut out the metal yourself. (The plasma cutter makes it not that hard and then you could do even more cool things!)

Gotcha. Emphasis on the Y in DIY.

So, what about materials? Anyone know where I can score some sheet metal? I’ll dumpster dive, man! If I know where to go.

Hmmm… not sure if materials are available… but the first place I would check would be the yard.
