I mentioned in a meeting that I was learning how to program in Python and had several folk express an interest in a Python class. I am pretty new at Python, but sometimes that is the best time to teach a thing since you better remember the stuff that was hard and/or confusing.
Who is interested in a very basic Python class?
We would use the latest version of Python and the PyCharm IDE since that is what I am familiar with.
If you are interested, respond here or contact me.
This is something else I’ve had interest in. I play with it for a bit and then… squirrel! Having a scheduled time would probably help me keep on task.
I would be interested. Have to see if my calendar shares that interest. I’m on the road 5 of the next 6 weeks, one of those out of country.
I would be interested. I cannot do Friday nights or Saturday mornings. Saturday afternoons after 3pm or so should be OK. I’m not a big fan of PyCharm though, since as you move up from their free version it becomes closed-source. I would probably choose Code:Blocks since I also need to learn C++, or maybe I would choose Eric IDE. There’s also Thonny for beginners, which has its own version of Python already built-in, install Thonny, done! Anyway, mark me down as interested, and thanks for offering this.
Ok. So I have added one to the schedule on Saturday, July 27th from 3-4.
We can decide if that is a good time and day then. Expect to download Python and the PyCharm IDE. (Bonus points if you have it already on your computer.) If someone doesn’t have their own laptop and wants to use a maker space computer, contact me beforehand, and I will see if I can make that happen.
I did C++ Cough Cough years ago, Need to refresh, I would be interested in a co-learn thing if you are?
Having also used Thonny, I agree it’s a good one.
My C is so old that there weren’t any pluses. I would be glad to set up some times for people to meet and work on C++, but I am probably not gonna be much help beyond that.
Fun fact: When I was a senior in college, my roommate came back from her summer job at Bell Labs touting a great new language they just made … C.
(That would have been in 1981.)

Thinking back to what grade I was in in 1981…
Unfortunately, something came up and I don’t think I’ll be able to come today.
No problem. We had several who couldn’t make it and the one that did is probably not gonna make the next one… so we will just do day 1 again.
Will there be more meetings? I don’t see anything on the calendar.
Oops… it only got on my calendar… I moved it to MakeICT’s… thanks for asking!

If anyone showed up for Python yesterday, I am so sorry I missed our class. (Retired people sometimes forget what day of the week it is. ) The class is still on. I might have to miss next week, though.
I’m glad you missed it too! I forgot to tell you on Friday that it looked like I’d be gone and I was.
I will be there today! Come even if you missed some of the meetings and we will catch you up. We also need to start working on a project… so if you have ideas on what you want to do… bring them along!
Sorry that I missed again. I’m out of practice for attending a class. I’m going to put a reminder on my calendar.
No biggie. You and Kim are now at the same spot. Next week we will make an app that uses GUI elements and is a guess the number between 1 and 10. (Or something like that)

We will meet this Saturday. (at our usual 3pm time.) We will not meet on the 29th (due to me being at the Renaissance festival.)
Sorry I missed again yesterday. Truck problems kept me busy.
I have too much going on. I don’t know if I’ll make it back again or not. The first class was good though.
