I noticed that Prusa 2 had been down for roughy 24 hours, and now that I am in town for the rest of the month, I decided to go over there and take a look at what was going on. Someone appears to have broken the wires going to the heater block. My guess would be that they might have tried to clear a blob, as I had cleared one myself just a week earlier.
I believe, like Prusa 1, this will require a new heater block to be purchased and then installed. I checked again in the cabinet to see if there were any spares in there, but was unable to find any. I did find an extruder in there, but one of the wires for the hot end had already been detached. I am not sure if these wires can be put back on or not, but my guess is that they can not.
Prusa 1 has been down needing a hot end for close to 3 months now. Not sure if we are planning on repairing them and trying again, or if there’s still interest in looking at new, more modern printers.
This is something like the 2nd time in those three months that I’ve logged into the forum. Last time I asked for a list of things that we’d need to order so we can combine the shipping costs. I also asked if the heating block on the “spare”/“part-out” machine on the bottom shelf would work but I don’t know that I got a response on either request.
I’m stepping down as the Fab Lab AL at the end of December. Hopefully someone will do a better job keeping the printers running.
Actually I looked online to see what was involved in getting the parts, and the parts may actually be there after all, and I was looking for the wrong thing… I’ll go back over in the morning and see, since if what I saw tonite is it, I may be able to get both of them running again tomorrow.
Sorry to hear about you stepping down. I truly want to help more, but when I messaged about Prusa 1, that set me on those 3 months of hardly being at home more than a couple of days here and there. I’m not sure with me only being in Wichita about 25% of the year would make me very effective at doing much of anything.
I’ll make another post tomorrow morning after reviewing everything. Thanks
I’ve discovered that we actually do have the necessary parts, but not the tool. I’ve got a small heat gun at home that I will need to bring over, since the screws I need to release are full of filament. I’ll try to locate that and get back over there later today.
