Plasma Cutter Consumables Kits Now Available

To see how popular they might be, Metalshop has bought (from Amazon) and put into kits for members to buy, some Plasma Cutter Consumables. These are being sold at MakeICT’s cost (details on request), plus a round-up donation to the next whole dollar. There are two types of kits available, “standard”, and “deluxe”.

The standard kit includes the parts that wear out the fastest:
Two 220842 Electrodes
One 220819 65A Nozzle
One 220941 45A Nozzle
One 220930 FineCut Nozzle
These kits are priced at $11.00 each.

You can see what materials the different nozzles will cut here:

The deluxe kit includes all the parts in the standard kit, plus:
One 220955 Deflector (Outer ring, use with 65A and 45A nozzles)
One 220948 Shield (Outer ring, use with FineCut nozzles)
The outer rings don’t wear as fast as the other parts, but nice to have.
These kits are priced at $17.00 each.

Members are always welcome to use whatever consumables happen to be in the Plasma Cutter at the time, but they may or may not be in the greatest shape, depending on how long since they were replaced. By bringing your own, you can ensure good cut quality. If you find excessively worn consumables installed, please let someone know.

To purchase them: Please bring cash, because for now, the only system we have set up, is that one of the authorized Leads has to see you put cash in an envelope and put it in the drop box. You can meet me (Electronics Lead) on Maker Mondays 7-8pm, Saturdays 4-5pm, Sundays 4-5pm. Soon other interested Leads will be authorized too, and their schedules will appear here.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Cash? In an envelope? Why can’t I use a credit card? Or my “Money” App?
A: Sorry, maybe someday you can pay for them online with a credit card, or a “Money” App, but not today.

Q: I only use the “X” nozzle, I never use the other two. What do I do with those?
A: Trade with other members, exchange nozzles you don’t want for nozzles you need.

Q: The parts list shows an 85 Amp nozzle (large) for the thickest material, why isn’t that one mentioned?
A: Because our machine is only equipped with a 65 Amp (medium) power supply. We don’t have enough current available to drive the large nozzle, so you can’t use it on our machine. The result would be a rough and inadequate cut.

Q: Does anybody really read these?
A: No, I don’t think so.

This is great! Thank you for putting these together. I took the authorization class a while back and have certainly forgotten the details on consumables. This makes it very convenient.

85A consumables should be fine. The kerf will be a little wider. They should last longer than 65A consumables run at 65A.
