Someone peed on the floor by the toilet in the office bathroom next to the special activities room, just now.
I added “wipe pee off the floor” to the courtesy sign because apparently people who “wipe water off the sink” don’t think to clean their own urine, too.
@Security or @Facilities or whoever is looking into this, it is very likely the same circumstances as Again. PM me if you need to, although security seemed to have a handle on it last time.
We do have a lot of older men in the space and this can be an issue with an enlarged prostate. Maybe encouraging “sit to pee” if someone is having issues?
As an older man, and with common sense, an enlarged prostate doesn’t preclude cleaning up after oneself or excuse not being excellent to others using a shared facility.
I wasn’t excusing the behavior. It’s just easier to stop something if you know why it’s happening. I know guys who have problems and don’t bother looking down to check, to the point where it looks like they didn’t hit the bowl at all. If their mom, or more likely wife, has always cleaned the toilet, some men may have gotten so used to not noticing, that they continue that behavior in public because they literally might not know they are doing it. You would be shocked at how oblivious some people are about their actions and how they affect others.
I’m honestly not sure what the purpose of these posts is, but it feels like the purpose is public shaming.
If you believe that someone has maliciously urinated on the floor, more than an errant stream, a child that could not reach the toilet, an individual with mobility issues that did not make it, an elderly person with difficulties, then the correct forum is Security. In any of the other examples above it may have been a mistake and while the individual should clean up their mess, they did not. I can certainly think of significant reasons why they may not have been able to.
Facilities is not a janitorial service. We exist to maintain the building and improve its functionality. MakeICT is staffed and run by the membership.
Functionally, it means that in the event you, a member, come across a mess at MakeICT it is in the interest of the group that you do what you can to rectify it. Bringing it to the attention of Security and Facilities is perhaps a first step but there is no need to heap shame on whatever class of person is the cause and cleaning the mess and moving on with your life and work is probably the best solution there is.
I have removed the ‘wipe pee off the floor’ sticker that was added because anyone who would have heeded that advice would do so without additional instruction, so the audience seemed ambiguous and the intent suspect.
Well, every previous time I’ve posted about this, people have approached me in person to thank me for it and try to brainstorm who’s doing it, so I assumed based on that that this was a welcome contribution. I have also been told in person numerous times to post in the Facilities forum for this issue, and previously, other people have put up “don’t urinate on the floor” signs.
Leaving the toilet seat up is annoying enough but actually leaving pee on the floor for others to step in goes beyond inconsiderate. I do think there needs to be more awareness of this, and if that sounds like public shaming to some, maybe some should be a little ashamed of how they use communal facilities.
If this is an issue of disability or age, as you suggest, maybe equipment should be provided to allow people to quickly and easily wipe the floor rather than expecting others to clean up after them.
