Sounds like we have even more chances to volunteer coming up in October. Which events are you guys interested in helping with?
Sat Oct 17th (10am to 3pm) - DIY Day at the Advanced Learning Library (have a group and projects lined up for this one)
Sun Oct 25th - Bubba’s 33 Trunk or Treat (5pm to 7pm) - chance to hand out candy to kids and tell people about what we do
(If there is enough interest i might bring out the off road truck)
Fri Oct 30th - Hay, Hooves, and Halloween at Cowtown (we might bring out a part of the castle and decorate one of their buildings if there is enough support), again, a chance to load kids up with candy
Sat Oct 31st - Tallgrass Film Festival (still coordinating with Harvester Arts to see where help is needed most)
With all these events coming up we also need to do a Make ICT T-shirt print day.
Also, here’s the volunteer signup for the tallgrass film festival STARTING THIS Saturday 10/10 from 10am to 5pm.
Looks like a couple of MakeICT members have already signed up to help out! Very cool!
Thank you to everyone the setup and attended the DIY Day last night and today!
It was great seeing old members like Tom Mcquire, Mike Hutton, and Melissa Long, as well as seeing newer members having fun like Kevin Delaughder, Joslin Lasky, and Logan Daugherty! You guys were a great pressence out there and made some great connections!
I’m excited to see how the trick-or-treat event goes at cowtown next week.
I had lots of fun helping out. I got to talk to a lot of people who were interested in joining MakeICT who came up to our booth or just by wandering around so I think the outreach went well! I hope we get some new members out of it.
soo…I think we’re just gonna stick with doing a trunk or treat at Bubba’s
From Bubba 33’s FB add:
Only a few more days till our Trunk or Treat on October 25th from 5p-7p.
We have tons of businesses coming out decorating their trunks and passing out candy!
There will be facepainting, giveaways, a 360 photo booth and did we mention candy?
Come join us at Bubba’s 33 on October 25th!
…I think this is an event we can have fun with and still reach a bit of a crowd, maybe take out a chunk of the castle and we have some fun decorating it with cobwebs and spooky critters, and bring out Kaity’s dragon. We are on the hunt for chocolate coins to hand out to kids during the event though. It doesn’t sound like there are many places that sell the coins in bulk though, so it may be a wally world run for bulk candy. We’re also looking at laser cutting more of the spinner toys to make with kids. So there is a lot we can do for the trunk or treat without putting out a substantial amount of effort in.
As far as doing Hay, Hooves, and Halloween, that is a 2 day event from 2pm to 8pm this weekend (Saturday and Sunday). It feels a bit much to take on after the last few outreach activities, so I’m going to respond back to them with ‘keep us in mind for future events’.
SOoooo…
They’re anticipating over 2000 children at this event.
-we will need to provide 2,000 pieces of candy or items for kids
-we will have 4 parking spaces for vehicles and display
-we can start setting up at 3:30pm
-age group tends to be around 3 to 10yrs old
-they have no problem with us handing out flyers and brochures
I think we’re gonna need more than LaDeana, Kaity, and myself to handle this event.
I can be there but I don’t have a costume on hand. I’ll see if I can throw something random together.
Spinner toys are kind of hard for that age range… so we are gonna make some monsters from paper plates and googly eyes…and markers and stick on foam… so if anyone is up for a little crafting with kids… join us.
I think we’ve got the candy covered for tomorrow.
Definitely a busy night… it was a constant run of trick-or-treaters from 4:45 to 7:30… I will try to call them up tomorrow to see if they had an official number of trick or treaters, but I would not be surprised if it was close to 1,000. A lot of kids wanted to sit and make the paperplate monsters, and there were a lot of kids that made them with their parents, but there were definitely a large number of parents that just wanted to keep the assembly line moving.
It was fun, but i’m not sure if we’ll see many people on maker monday from this event. There were a lot of people blown away by the castle and Kaity’s dragon, so we were definitely a crowd favorite in terms of displays.
Oh, and Texas Roadhouse invited us out to do trunk-or-treat tomorrow night, but this is a bit too short of notice for us. I will try to reach out to them to see what future events they have to offer, as well as possibly donate some gift cards for the winter maker market.
