Hello all, I’m Ed. I’m a Mechanical Engineer; moved my family to Wichita 26 years ago to design airplane stuff at Cessna/Textron Aviation and I’m still there enjoying the creativity of designing things that go fly. Many hobbies/interests have come and go for me over the years, but I started wheel-throwing pottery a bit over 2 years ago with primary interest in functional pieces. Wheel work has been my primary focus as a potter. I’ll be the first to admit I’m no expert at it but I find such a joy in working at the wheel and creating functional art pieces I can use every day!

Somewhere early on I convinced (coerced?) my wife Michele (@Skeet100) to join me in a pottery class. We both got hooked and now we enjoy it together - a blessing for our relationship but a bit of a curse for the ol’ pocketbook!

I’ve been visiting MakeICT as a guest with her for about a year since she joined, and I decided to finally make it official in April. We’ve enjoyed meeting so many great people in Ceramics, at MakeICT and elsewhere in Wichita, sharing common interests, and sharing ideas and skills with each other.

After meeting quite a number of people at MakeICT who’ve mentioned an interest in learning to throw at the wheel or improve their skills, I decided the best way to contribute here is to join officially and share my passion and ability by teaching others what I can to help them achieve that. I took @ladeana’s class on how to set up a MakeICT class/workshop, put the materials together to teach it, and put it on the calendar for 4 Saturdays in June! I hope to see some of you there who’ve said you want to learn to throw things.

Most of the time when we’re around the space you’ll find Michele and me in the Ceramics Studio. Stop in sometime and say hello. Cheers!
