When loading the pug mill tonight we found a fully glazed piece of pottery in with the reclaimed clay in the bucket!!
Had it not been discovered and instead ended up in the pug mill it may have damaged the pug mill itself. It also would have ended up getting broken by the blades and distributed throughout the entire pug mill of reclaimed clay. It would have then all had to be thrown away due to the sharp shards and/or hard chucks of pottery.
Only wet clay or greenware- wet or bone dry can be recycled. Once it has been bisque or glaze fired it can no longer be recycled. Unwanted pottery that has been fired at all needs to be given away or discarded. Never place it in the reclaim bucket!!

Glad you caught it! Thank you!!! Great reminder that once a piece has been in a kiln, bisque or glaze, it CANNOT be recycled! Give it away or throw it away. A sharp piece of fired pottery can cut someone trying to use the recycled clay.
