Monthly Ceramics Dept Meeting 4/27/25

The Ceramics dept. meeting happened Sunday 04/27/25 and attended by four members, for those that were not here you missed out on great conversation and ice cream sandwiches!!

Things that were discussed:

  • Inventory: As you may have noticed the various departments around Make ICT are getting color coded inventory tags, Ceramics is yellow which goes great with our yellow paint scheme in the room! I think I have all the major stuff marked and in the system, obviously I didn’t mark every wareboard, paintbrush, and cookie cutter. If you notice something that you think needs an inventory tag, please let me know.
  • The area is looking great! Kudos to everyone cleaning up after themselves and taking pride in our area, it helps so much for new members to see and just to be able to walk into a clean area to start working.
  • Laundry: if you didn’t know, there is a washer and dryer in the room to the West of the Kiln room, if you feel the urge and take the dirty towels from under sink and want to wash them, please make sure there are no big chunks of clay on the towels. there is laundry detergent in a kitty littler bucket on the floor, just one scoop and start it running. You don’t have to stay and do the whole load, just write “Towels in Washer” or “Towels in dryer” (as appropriate) on the white board and the next member can pick up from there.
  • Empty Bowls fundraiser at WSU is coming up October 18th, I have reached out to them for details about donations of bowls, but not heard back yet. Basically it is a fundraiser that you pay $35, grab a handmade bowl and sample chili and soups from around the area, when you are done they will wash it and wrap it up for you to take home. I am planning on a few “open studio” days to have members and non-members come in and make a masterpiece for charity.
  • With the warmer weather upon us, the air conditioners are back in service, please remember to turn them off before you leave and when they are on, set them to the same temperature. If you prefer the windows open remember to close and lock before you leave, I painted Green and Red on the window locks to help identify if it is locked or not. While this will not be helpful to those members that are colorblind, I feel every little bit helps.
  • Reminder that there is no clay storage in the studio unless it is in a cubby. There is free clay storage in the Kiln Room in the blue baskets.
  • Speaking of cubby’s, there are a few small cubby’s available for $5 a month.
  • We did our monthly purge on Sunday, everything over 30 days was disposed of. Lots of stuff with no names or dates, ALWAYS PUT YOUR NAME AND DATE ON YOUR PROJECTS. I have been putting dates on things and then waiting 30 days, most have not been touched. If you put a phone number I will contact you about it before it is purged. If you can’t get to it in 30 days, just update the date or let me know.
  • You may have noticed more trimming tools and other items in the bins by the sink, one of our members passed away a while ago and their family donated their tools and supplies to the Ceramics Studio. Many thanks to them!
  • I have recently taken the “how to teach a class” class, and once I am in the system I will start putting Ceramics authorization classes on the calendar.
  • the ceramics meetings are usually the last Sunday of the month, but for May that is Memorial day weekend, so I will be moving the meeting to Sunday June 1st at 6:00PM.

Tony that meeting is on the main calendar (not done through event creator) so I fixed the date on that meeting for you. If you have any issues, get with me and I will fix them
