Middle school volunteer night

Hey makers, I had a great time organizing middle schoolers at our first volunteer night last Wednesday! The kids and parents got some yarn out of trash bags and stacked onto shelves in textiles, sorted by color. They labeled a bunch of drawers in the electronics lab, and started de-tangling a doom box of ethernet cables.

I’ll probably have another one on Wednesday the 12th or 26th, 6pm, I’m gaging interest. I could have used more makerspace members to TAKE volunteers, there were like ten people which isn’t bad but it was too cramped in electronics so I bounced between rooms.

And here’s a thing we always struggle with… can we plan our needs ahead of time so volunteers can tackle them in nice little pre-packaged volunteer job bundles?

I should be able to be there on the 26th to help.

I would like to sort the fabric barrels by type so I can make some scrap grab bags to sell. I will bring some one gallon bags as well. I’ll also make some cardboard pieces so we can wind trim on to them to keep trim organized and possibly sell it.
