Materials for laser cutter

I was curious where the best places in town to buy material for the laser cutter are. I have a project I’d like to use 3mm plywood for, and looked around Lowe’s but didn’t find any. Also would be interested in mdf and acrylic.

3mm is tough to find. Intermountain Wood is the only place that has it in big sheets. If you just need small sheets (like 12" squares) look at craft stores like Michaels or hardware stores in the balsa wood/dowel rod areas.

For bleached MDF and 5mm plywood my favorite place lately is home depot, they have 2ftx4ft panels that fit in my little car.

Do you really want 3mm, or is 1/8in close enough?

Star Lumber sells fairly decent 1/8in baltic birch in 5ft x 5ft sheets
for not a lot of money. Occasionally you can find a smaller piece on
their shelf of cutoffs, though most of those are 1/4in thick or more.

If you don’t need big pieces you can find baltic birch plywood at hobby
type stores, such as Hobby Lobby and Hobbytown USA. The later has some
high quality stuff that has many plies, but they are small pieces and
rather expensive. Manards also has some decent pieces (better than Lowes).
