I was able to get to the forums by going directly to talk.makeict.org but trying to go to makeict.org is not working…
I got to it ok.
Yeah, the wiki was down a bit ago too and now it’s back up. At least some of the IT stuff seems to get upset anytime we have wind or storms.
The website and Wiki are hosted on the same server, while the forum is on a separate server. All are hosted off-site and should certainly not be affected by local weather.
It does appear that the server hosting the website/wiki has been having intermittent issues for some time now. Not sure if anyone has looked into it.
The Jetpack monitoring sent an alert to @IT that the site was down at 11:56 local time and then that it was up 23 minutes later, at 12:19.
During the downtime it’s possible for the website and the forum to appear to be up, when viewing something that is cached, which can be your browser, your access provider, the hosting network, etc.
I believe that @jameslancaster has been trying to determine what the problem might be.
It was definitely very concerning when on March 21st there were 17 cycles of down and up within about a 9 hour period.
In my personal opinion it’s worth exploring whether we could justify moving to a different hosting provider and what the cost would be and how much effort would be involved. I’d start with contacting our current provider to find out what they know about the root cause of the issues, if anything.
