Never made something like this before. My old ironing board was worn out. I took off the old top, added a board in its place on the base, padded it and voila new ironing board perfect for quilting.

Nice. I can imagine the shape is way better for quilting than the normal one for garments.

Ceiling tiles, 2’x4’ ones, actually make a good innards for a homemade ironing board. It allows the steam to flow without the possibility of warp if water gets spilled.

I put a top like this on my wife’s ironing board. She bought some material like what a regular ironing board cover is made from and covered it. I think it is 2’ x 6’.
