Laser cutting glass

I’m wanting to make my stained glass process way easier by later cutting the pieces… for hobby glass what’s good power/speed settings?

The lasers will only etch glass, not cut it. :slightly_frowning_face:

when I tried to etch glass it was great at breaking it.

There can’t be a single recommended power/speed setting due to the variations in thickness and composition of hobby glass but a reasonable starting point is 80%, 15ipm. As with all materials, do a test and adjust settings based on results of testing.

Glass can rapidly degrade the lens coating and the precision usually isn’t better and the time expended isn’t usually less than cutting by manual methods except if you are wanting to cut a larger piece into many small, straight sided pieces and can tolerate a lot of breakage.

I couldn’t find a good general guide for stained glass, but

covers many of the issues.

I got decent results at 200/40.

You’re not trying to summon Pinhead in FabLab are you?
