As of 5:40pm, Oct 30, the Internet at MakeICT is down. @aargri made a call to Cox and it was confirmed that there is a known outage. No estimated time to repair at this time.
Should be all good now.
Correction it is still down. Cox can’t communicate with the modem tried restarting it still nothing.
The Cox Internet service is still down at MakeICT. Unfortunately, they won’t be coming to check it out until Monday.
I now remember one of the reasons I was so happy to be rid of cox!
@Directors could you consider switching our service? This affects operations. I can still host my class tomorrow but it’d normally rely pretty heavily on having internet access.
Cox is supposed to be here tomorrow to look at repairs according to Steve. We will be discussing the movement forward.
Last I checked there weren’t many options in the area for copper or fiber based Internet. That may have changed in the past few years, but I wouldn’t be super hopeful. A cellular modem could be a fairly low cost option for a backup.
I know it’s probably not the popular opinion in this crowd, but I’ve had Starlink for three years and I love it. I very rarely go down and I have an excellent signal all the time.
They might even have something available for 501 C3’s
Idk if internet is that critical at the space. The only annoying thing I had last week was having to do check-in/authorizations on my phone, and the part of the class where I said “this is all on the wiki, see? I mean… take my word for it…”
I spoke with Steve this weekend and we are going to discuss the history of Cox at the space or if this is a fairly isolated incident.
Thank you everyone for your comments and I will check in with Steve to discuss what the future of the space looks like for IT infrastructure and internet capabilities.
The Internet service is back up. The short story is that a connector was going bad which was causing interfering signals coming from us that were causing problems in the neighborhood. As a result, they disconnected us on Wed. The tech supposedly came to the door to see if they could talk to anyone, but no one answered.
Unfortunately that information was not available to anyone that we talked to after that point and wasn’t known until the tech arrived today. After finding and replacing that connector, the service came back up and should be as good or better than it was.
Thank you Steve for the update. This is great news!
