Comic Con and Renaissance fair if coming up quick! We will have a booth for both, which means we will also need volunteers for both to not only setup and tear down but also run.
For the Comic Con, there has been talk of doing a cosplay repair station. The cosplay contest is on Saturday, so that is when it would really need the help of someone with some seamstress skills. There are a lot of kids and young adults that attend this event, so it would be nice if we could knock out some small projects for them to build. LaDeana made some pretty cool lego-sized thrones for people to make, I donāt recall if we have any leftover kits from that, but it might be fun to see if we can do the same project out of that pink foam thatās been sitting in fab lab. (Iām not sure what it would take to repair the foam cutter at this point)
A few members also sell their wears at the event so itās a fun opportunity to see what people have been making.

The renaissance fair takes a lot more effort but is also a ton of fun. Weāll need people to help setup and tear down the tent and castle facade as well as run a small project area. Itās typically a small catapult for kids, but it sounds like they would like to reorganize what we are doing this year to put more emphasis on interacting with patrons. The interactions that Arkillion had with patrons last year is more of what they would like us to bring to the event. I donāt know if itās going to be possible for us to build larger ākid friendlyā siege weapons for the event, or if we want to store stuff like that but I would like to have a meeting this week to see who all is up for making the āto doā list for this event a āto doneā list.

We might be a bit late to get on the agenda for this month if we ultimately need to purchase materials for the event, but I would like to at least get a ROM (rough order of magnitude, ie is this going to cost us $200 or $2000?, and 20 volunteer hrs or 200hrs?) figured out for both events this week before we dig into projects. Iāll put a meeting on the calendar for 8pm Thursday this week (8/8) if that works for everyone else.
I will check my schedule, but I should be down for most of this. I would like to be able to do just half days thoughā¦ my old self is exhausted with a full day out there.
This Thursday is leads and chairs at 7:00PM, So some might be dividing their time between if those overlap.
I would love to sell my work at both of the ComicCon and RenFaire booths, if possible. It was so much fun last time! Do we know how big of a space we have for MakeICT at ComicCon? And then how much of that can be for individual sellers?
We technically have a 10x10 spot at comic con, but traditionally we havenāt sold stuff out of our booth there since itās a pretty tight spot if weāre on the main floor.
Itās an even tighter spot if we bring out the ballista for photo ops.
This is contingent on whether I get a job before these events that alters my availability, but right now Iām available for all three dates for both events.
It is possible that I wonāt have stuff to sell at either one, but for ren faire I have a sales rack that I can bring if necessary (so as not to take up table space).
For Comic Con, if I do cosplay then I wonāt be able to man the cosplay repair station full time, but I could be there at least some of the time.
Next year, maybe we could all do cosplay, and make at least some of it at MakeICT, so we can show off what you can do at MakeICT.
Sign me up for the Renaissance Festival for all days.
I donāt know about ICT Comic Con, and I donāt know much about costume fixing. I could probably help out running it.
I would like to help out for the Ren Faire. I could be available for both Saturday and Sunday, and I would be able to come out on Friday to help at 1pm.
Weāre also being asked to come up with an event that can be put on the playbillsā¦
I mentioned reviving the cosplay contests but maybe with some kind of twist. Iām going to regret asking this but: how could we make a cosplay contest unique?
Below is the new layout where our tent, the field, and the authors pavilion will be.
Something that used to be really popular at conventions when I knew about it was cosplay chess, where Cosplayers are the chess pieces for seperate teams. The teams are whatever the announcers want it to be, and typically the announcers/color commentators are the players who move the cosplayer pieces around, with witty banter. Then when someone is going to take another piece, they have a very brief āfight sceneā in place and the losing piece ādies/admits to defeat in a visual wayā and gets collected into the winning pieceās side. It can be very entertaining for a crowd, or somewhat boring, so the stakes may be high depending on whether we have good color commentators or not. Just a thought though, Iām not sure how well this will work on a field as compared to an indoor venue
Does anyone have a quilt, guitar, battlebot, stained glass piece, or comic con related item that they would like to loan for this weekend to be put on display?
My stained glass piece is not fully done but its put together enough to transport. It just needs thicker beading and a cleaning, but can be displayed as is. The iridescent colors are definitely eye catching.
Just wanted to pop in here and say that I really loved the idea of what we had to offer this weekend, and the people who came by let us know they really appreciated it. I think it would be so cool to expand it out a bit more and use the notes we took of things people were looking for that we happened to not have. It would make sense to do that for a 3 day con, but we still had a decent amount of people for a 2 day con. Thank you @rustin.atkeisson for setting this up for us!
