To whom it may concern:
I replaced the blade on the verticle band saw in the hot shop last night. There is one blade left in the package.
Both oxygen and acetylene tanks on the oxy/acetylene torch set are empty. There are two tanks on the North wall by the sandblaster dust collector. Are these the replacement tanks for this unit or do they go someplace else?
Thanks Jim! Where were the blades located? I searched the cabinet and only found blades for the bigger saws and some that don’t even belong in the metal shop from what I can tell. What size are the bottles that are full? I didn’t look around for others, as I didn’t think metal shop owned any others. Maybe those are the ones that Aaron says we’re recently filled.
The blades were under the bench the saw is on, but they were in the back corner.
Not knowing who owns the tanks, I was hesitant to swap them out. I’d heard there may be issues with the torch body or the valves so the whole setup should be looked over.
I could be wrong, but I think the jewelry bottles are MC size
Ok. I plan on being there Monday night so unless someone responds and claims the tanks, I’ll swap them out and look over the equipment.
There are four sets of oxy/acetylene tanks that I am aware of at makeICT. The Jewelry lab has one set of tanks. The Hot shop has 3, one large one that is currently hooked up to regulators and is empty, one pair of similarly sized tanks that has no regulators, hoses or torches. I did not check those ones for obvious reasons. There is also a third smaller cart with smaller bottles in the hot shop, it also has hoses and a torch attached and it did have gas pressure yesterday.
Thanks for the info Cooper!
TLDR: we need to fill acetylene and oxygen bottles.
I confirmed that there are 2 “full size” sets of bottles and 1 MC. Both full size sets need to be filled. The set that had the torch attached was empty empty. The other set has about 400 psig for oxygen so it is ok for a bit, but the acetylene is at 25 psig and should be filled and not used as you could start drawing acetone out of the bottle.
Great info! I knew low pressure was bad, but I had forgotten about the acetone issue. Should the regulator be removed from the acetylene tank?
Probably should have done that, yeah.
