Hi all. I did a search, but didn’t find any results. I have a project I’m going to be 3D printing, and it requires heat-set inserts. Does MakeICT have a tool to properly set the inserts? Thanks!
Afaik, nothing dedicated for that, but I could be wrong. I use a soldering iron to do it at home.
Thanks for the soldering iron idea. Just looked up a few examples, and that will work for me.
Mind the amount of heat you put into the insert. Too much and it stays hot long after you have it in place and will continue to melt plastic and sink into the part. AMHIK
Thanks! That makes total sense. I’ll make sure to do a few test runs.
A lot of insert sets come with a tool to put on a soldering iron. Ideally one which you can set the temperature on.
You can get basically a simple press that does it straight vertical, but I’ve had good luck with just doing it by hand (I don’t do too many of them. I tend to actually just tap the plastic which does generally better IMO, but it will depend on the usage.)
An example, not a recommendation.
