Hallway Lights Remote Switch

What would it take to make a remote switch, perhaps located by the alarm, for turning off the hallways lights that doesn’t require going down the stairs into the basement? If possible, could the arming of the alarm also turn the lights off as an incentive to arm it on the way out?

Totally replacing the relay switches that died. There have at least been talks about moving the switches to the hall right outside of the boiler room. But it really hasn’t been a high priority. Typically the lights are only turned on for events such as Maker Monday, and we turn them back off when we are done. But if someone would like to work on the project they are more than welcome. The main problem we had was the transformer died, and all of the wiring was so old and brittle, it was just decided to scrap the whole thing.

Motion sensors would be primo, and automagical, as a super stretch goal to reach for. Or so thinks I.

We have discussed motion sensors, but the problem is you have to put them on each light. Plus, we really don’t need all of the lights turned on most of the time. As I mentioned, we typically only use all of the lights when we are having a special event.

Any motion sensors would need to light up enough area for the cameras to capture whoever triggered the lights. The last break in was not caught on camera because the lights weren’t on.

No you don’t.
We have cameras. They can isolate differences between frames (movement) and actuate relays based on where the movement is detected.

But James does not work on crusty old wires anymore.

Other than for the in laws but THATS IT
