Glaze Back in Stock / New Glazes / Magazines

We’ve replaced a couple of bottle glazes that had run out, and have back stock for those that are about to run out.

Also, we have two NEW GLAZES for folks to try out:

Obsidian - a glossy black that, when layered over with other colors can yield stunning results. We printed out a couple handouts from Amaco showing possible combinations. While we don’t have all these glazes in stock, it certainly can help prime the imagination and provide some inspiration! The three handouts hanging on the supply shelf are for a base glaze that we do have. This is a typical thick glaze like most of the others we have.

Cosmic Tea Dust - Amaco has 4 new glazes out, which are featured in the current Ceramics Monthly which you can find a copy of to view in the new Inspiration magazine box on the shelf by the kiln. Cosmic Tea Dust is a dark glaze that comes out with a glitter effect after firing. This is a VERY liquidy glaze that appears to require a couple of very light coats with good drying in-between coats.

Sample tiles for both of these glazes will be in the next glaze firing which should happen in the next day or two, so look for them in the studio.

We’ve got a magazine box on the shelf by the kiln now where the most recent back copies of Ceramics Monthly and Pottery Illustrated will hang out for everyone to peruse for ideas and tips. Do enjoy those, I know I do!

If there are other glazes that you have used regularly that you’ve picked up at Evans that you think folks would like to have us keep in stock in the studio, please post a picture or two of your work and we’ll consider adding them to our list if there’s good interest from others.

Also, if you’ve had some really stunning pieces come out of the kiln (and we’ve seen quite a few over the last couple months) that involved layering or other creative glazing techniques, please please please post a couple pictures and share which glazes and how you applied them so other folks can try it out.

Thanks everyone for keeping the studio clean and bustling with activity! These are certainly exciting times in the cool back corner of MakeICT!
