Like anyone else, life has afforded me many adventures - some planned, some not. At times I have lived a few months in different states from one side of the US to the other, but I have always called Wichita my home. It’s a great place to live.
Soon, however, life is taking me across an ocean. Maybe for a few months, maybe a few years, or maybe even forever. Who can really say? This is my last week in Wichita for the foreseeable future though, and I’m sure going to miss it.
I’m hoping to attend the annual meeting on Sunday, but there are still many things to wrap up before I leave, so I likely won’t make it. Thankfully, I can at least share my farewell here.
MakeICT was such a massive part of my life for many years, and although I’ve managed to fly under the radar for the past few, I’m immeasurably grateful to be a part of this community. There are none quite like it.
I sincerely mean it when I say thank you to the founders who let me dive in head-first, the people who put up with my leadership, and those who continue to improve on MakeICT. I wouldn’t be me without MakeICT.
If you’d like to stay in touch, the best way will be by email (dom@dominiccanare.com), although I reserve the right to continue lurking the forum!
I was sad to not see you at the meeting. You are a pretty awesome person, and I hope you have a great time with everyone going with you especially your cats.
I really wanted to make the meeting too, but getting everything out of the house before closing on Monday really came down to the wire. I maybe slept 1.5 hours that night and I’m pretty sure I left my favorite 10ft 3m USB-C cable there
I hope the cats enjoy the new adventure too! They have never flown before, and have their own itinerary. They leave and arrive a few days before I do, but then they have to spend a week-and-a-half in quarantine upon arrival. I’m anxious about the whole thing, but hopefully they handle the travel ok. They have transitioned into new homes very easily, so it’s really just the travel and quarantining that I’m nervous about. It took a lot of effort and money to move them. They had to go through (essentially) their own visa process and even have their own travel agent. Altogether a little over $10k to move both of them!
One thing I’m certain of is that they’re going to love all the new birds and critters to watch from big windows
