Fall Offsite Events

There’s some upcoming events that we tend to need a handful of volunteers for.

Please start the conversations with other members about the events below! These are fun and exciting, I wouldn’t be going to all of these events if I didn’t think they were!

ICT Comic Con - August 29th and 30th (Setup on the 28th) @ Century II

We generally need 2 or 3 people during the event, but since we started bringing the castle we’ll need 4 or 5 people for setup and tear down. We’re usually in the upstairs area as a cosplay repair station and the castle is used as a photo opportunity at the entrance. This year is going to be a bit special since one of the animators from 1983 Masters of the Universe TV show. LaDeana, Dean, and I usually staff the event, but we’d love to bring in some new faces to explore and have fun with us.

National Drive Electric Month - Sept 19th 10am to 1pm @ WSU’s Eugene M. Hughes Metroplex.

Usually it’s just me up there with the roadster along with Paul Shackelford. This year though, with the start of the solar powered AC project for Room 2, it’d be nice to setup a table and explain how going solar is benefitting MakeICT over the traditional method of hooking an AC unit up to the grid. I haven’t signed up for the event, but I might wait until the end of August to commit to this event depending on if there are other people interested, especially with how close it is to the renaissance festival. Please get the word out and let me know if there are more people interested.

Great Plains Renaissance Festival - Sept 26th and 27th (Setup on the 26th) @ Sedgwick County Park

This is the big event that we really need all the help we can get on. It’s intense, it’s a blast, and it is super memorable! This one really takes 7 to 8 of us to cover everything we do out there between the thrones, paint projects, puppet show, vendor support, and siege warfare contest. That’s 7 or 8 of us outside of the SCA and Blackhearts. You will need to attend a prep session before going to this event - it’s easy to get lost during the event but we want to make sure everyone that comes gets the opportunities to go out and enjoy the events and the rest of the vendors out there. I may need help hauling the castle up and back. If someone is willing to loan a trailer, that would be a huge help, otherwise I may end up trying to load up everything up in my truck and 8ft utility trailer.

DIY Day at the Library - Oct 17th 10am to 3pm (setup on the 16th) @ Advanced Learning Library

https://wichitalibrary.communico.co/event/11870096

The city of Wichita is celebrating their 150th year partially through a DIY Day at the Advanced Learning Library. We’ve been invited and need to confirm our involvement by 9/17. It’s been a couple years since we last were involved, but this is an indoor event, and we did go fairly big for it without the castle. Last time there were 6 of us between 3 stations, supporting the other vendors. For the event we had stations to make pancakes, paint rocks, and ran the foam cutter. We may bring in a mini laser instead of a foam cutter this time. Again, if there’s interest in supporting this event, get the conversations started!

TL:DR - You don’t have to be the one that attends these events but please talk about them with other MakeICT members and friends, let’s have some fun being a bigger part of the Wichita Community!

I’m down to help with the Festival and potentially the Library as well. Let me know what you need from me and I’ll be there.

There’s been some interest offline and we were already registered for the DIY Day at the Advanced Learning Library.

We’re having a kickoff meeting at 7pm Thursday to formally kick off the season, see who’s interested, and review what we need to get done to make these events happen.

I’ll be heavily focused on putting the castle in tip top shape, and we’ll probably be leaning on LaDeana for the interactive activities (though I will be printing a massive skeletor duck to be painted during the comic con and auction off at the end of that event, and I still need to figure out what will be the auction item for the renn fair)

It’s not the end of the world if you can’t make the kickoff meeting, but if you’re still interested in attending an event or helping to prep for an event, please let us know. Communicating ahead of time makes things soooooo much less stressful.

Okay, looks like we’ve got a more solid plan for the offsite events for the rest of the year. There’s a lot going on…

I can help with Ren Fest as well.

I’m very interested in going to the Tulsa maker faire again.

I’m putting these events on the Makeict Calendar.

After checking my calendar, I find that I have a confilct with the Ren Faire for Saturday. It looks like we have plenty of people… but this is my heads up.

can someone remind me Logans last name and Kaitllyn’s so I can add them to the emails. I got all them on the calender except I need times for Electric Car and the Winter Market. If others volunteer, I will try to add them to the event so they can get it on their google calendar if they want.
