If you were the maker of the thick donut bowl- it exploded in the bisque kiln despite it drying for a few weeks.
Reminder to all, pieces really should be no thicker than 1/4 inch thick. Pieces between 1/4-1/2 need to dry for WEEKS before firing. Moisture gets trapped inside the piece and explodes when it heats up and steams in the kiln.
If you make anything with a hollow inside, you need to have a hole or two poked through to the center to allow steam to escape. Also these pieces should dry for weeks before first firing.
Thankfully this time no one else’s work was destroyed and the kiln survived the explosion. It was in the very top of the kiln.
