Maker Monday is our open house event. It’s a great way to experience the makerspace and the maker culture in person. You’ll learn all about our space, tools, policies, people, and how we operate.

Our tours are free and open to the public. While you are welcome to just show up, we prefer that you register in advance so we have enough members on hand to assist with our tours.

You are welcome to hang out and chat after your tour. There’s always something interesting going on at Maker Monday!

New Member Orientation sessions are required for all new members and exist to familiarize you with the building and the organization. To qualify for this session, you must fit the following requirements:
- Membership profile completed and approved
- Waiver Signed
- Payments are all current

This session will including a short slideshow about MakeICT and then an in-depth tour of the facility. Members will also sit down with a number of leadership and peer members for a brief discussion to allow us to get to know you. At the end of this session, you will get your key to the building so that you can come and go as you please.

Advanced Stained Glass Session 2 of 3

Designing and building of leaded glass art projects in the classical lead came process. Students will learn fundamental safety for handling glass and the basics of designing, cutting, fitting, soldering, framing, and hanging Lead Came style glass art.

Tools available in the glass work area will include basic glass shaping hand tools, grinders, and soldering irons.

Lessons will be a combination of lecture and hands-on training. Lab time will be scheduled within the sessions as optional work periods, but are highly recommended for individual and small group learning of specific topics. A beginning project (including materials) will be given to all students during the initial session, with an optional individual project of the student’s choice, to be created during class. Materials for the optional individual project are the responsibility of the class participants. Special pricing or considerations from local sources for materials and tools may be available; check with the instructor for details.

Restrictions:
Due to the nature of the medium and processes being used, no one under the age of sixteen years of age will be allowed in the glass work area without PRIOR approval of the instructor.

Prerequisite course:
Introduction to Stained Glass or instructor approval

Instructor availability:
Typically 30 minutes prior to class session, as well as additional lab hours as published. Additional individual time by specific arrangement only.

Session 2 – 1 hour instruction + Lab

Woodshop Hazardous Materials Authorization

Learn to use exotic materials safely in our shared space. Participants will learn how to clean re-claimed wood, test for lead paint, and adequately clean up after the use of exotic woods. Once authorized, participants will be allowed to use exotic woods in the woodshop at any time. Expect to get dirty. Participants are encouraged to bring respirators if they have one, though dust masks will be provided.

We will ALSO use this time to inventory our tools and rid the space of cluttered material.

*This CAN be taken before being authorized for the woodshop, though the use of the tools in the space would still require Woodshop Authorization.

Learn the basics to safely operate the major woodshop tools in this safety class including understanding the limitations of each tool, the forces created when using the tool and how to maintain safe control for improved performance. Tools covered: SawStop table saw, drill press, band saw, router table, jointer, planer, miter saw, oscillating spindle and belt / disk sanders and scroll saw. Expect around an hour of walkthrough with our tools and equipment, followed by an OPTIONAL hour of hands on practice with the tools aimed at those who have little or no practice with woodworking tools

Prerequisites: Please read the woodshop tool access policy and safety requirements on the wiki page prior to coming to class. Safety Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): • Mandatory: Closed-toed shoes, eye protection, short sleeves • Advisable: Hearing protection

Upon completion of the safety demonstration you can use this woodshop equipment for your projects whenever you work at MakeICT as a member!

Join us at MakeICT on Tuesday, October 29th, for a Halloween-themed texture painting project led by local artist Jae Lear. Guided instruction and necessary supplies will be provided for attendees to create their own original piece of artwork. This will be a simple project that is perfect for beginners and professionals alike. The class will cover using textural elements such as a palette knife and piping bag.

Learn the basics of vinyl cutting and how to use the vinyl cutter at MakeICT! We'll cover how vinyl cutters work, how to convert vector files for cutting, and how to prepare and apply vinyl decals. Each participant will practice with the software and cut at least one single color vinyl graphic to take home. Vinyl and example files will be provided, but participants may also bring in a vector graphic of their own (subject to review) to try out.

Inkscape is a free, open-source vector design application. We use it at MakeICT for laser cutter, vinyl cutter and foundations for other CNC tools.

In this class we'll introduce frequently used Inkscape tools and application:

- Create shapes, paths and texts
- Select, scale and rotate
- Node manipulation
- Creating vector images from raster sources
- Snap and align
- Fill and stroke colors

Intermediate computer and mouse skills are required. Users should be able to navigate basic file and windows menus, right click, double click, drag and use shortcut keys to cut, copy and paste.

There will be time in the last part of the class for questions, answers, and for participants to bring up challenges with their own projects that we can work through together.

Bring in your own laptop or use ours.

Horizontal band saw
Vertical band saw
Chop Saw
Other equipment not listed may require further authorization. This class is required before taking most other metalworking classes or workshops.
Safety glasses are available but we recommend bringing your own if you can.

Renaissance Fencing group practice Tuesdays from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturdays from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Weekly meetings open to the general public. Learn how to fence in the round with classic weapon styles for Foil, Epee, Saber, Dagger, Rapiers, and other offensive & defensive systems. This is not Collegiate / Olympic fencing!

Rules of engagement: Safety is first and foremost! Anyone ten years of age or above is welcome and encouraged to participate. Minors must be accompanied by Parent or Guardian. Safety gear and weapons are provided by the club for those who do not have their own gear. Note: personal protective items for males (cups) are required, but not provided by the club. Closed toe sturdy shoes, pants, and full torso covering are required for all participants.

First visit will be an orientation with an instructor, safety brief, footwork, and weapon handling; at no charge. Continued participation requires club membership.
