Arts & Science meetings are times dedicated to working on projects with members of the barony. Depending on the class schedule, organized classes can also be taught. New Member Orientation

New Member Orientation sessions are required for all new members and exist to familiarize you with the building and the organization. To qualify for this session, you must fit the following requirements:
- Membership profile completed and approved
- Waiver Signed
- Payments are all current

This session will including a short slideshow about MakeICT and then an in-depth tour of the facility. Members will also sit down with a number of leadership and peer members for a brief discussion to allow us to get to know you. At the end of this session, you will get your key to the building so that you can come and go as you please.

Advanced Stained Glass Session 2 of 3

Designing and building of leaded glass art projects in the classical lead came process. Students will learn fundamental safety for handling glass and the basics of designing, cutting, fitting, soldering, framing, and hanging Lead Came style glass art.

Tools available in the glass work area will include basic glass shaping hand tools, grinders, and soldering irons.

Lessons will be a combination of lecture and hands-on training. Lab time will be scheduled within the sessions as optional work periods, but are highly recommended for individual and small group learning of specific topics. A beginning project (including materials) will be given to all students during the initial session, with an optional individual project of the student’s choice, to be created during class. Materials for the optional individual project are the responsibility of the class participants. Special pricing or considerations from local sources for materials and tools may be available; check with the instructor for details.

Restrictions:
Due to the nature of the medium and processes being used, no one under the age of sixteen years of age will be allowed in the glass work area without PRIOR approval of the instructor.

Prerequisite course:
Introduction to Stained Glass or instructor approval

Instructor availability:
Typically 30 minutes prior to class session, as well as additional lab hours as published. Additional individual time by specific arrangement only.

Session 2 – 1 hour instruction + Lab

Vinyl Cutting Basics

Learn the basics of vinyl cutting and how to use the vinyl cutter at MakeICT! We'll cover how vinyl cutters work, how to convert vector files for cutting, and how to prepare and apply vinyl decals. Each participant will practice with the software and cut at least one single color vinyl graphic to take home. Vinyl and example files will be provided, but participants may also bring in a vector graphic of their own (subject to review) to try out.

Laser Cutting Basics

Learn to use the 80 watt CO2 laser cutters at MakeICT. We will discuss the capabilities of the machines, safety rules, and operation in flat mode. Participants will complete a small project using Inkscape and LightBurn software.

Intermediate computer proficiency is recommended. Users should be comfortable with web browsing, Windows file folder navigation, copy and paste shortcut keys, and mouse operation.
