implications for woodturning. This would include working with damaged wood, such as spalting, bark inclusions and worm holes.
Additional PPE considerations and products to address various damaged wood issues.
- We will touch on safety while sanding on the lathe.
- We will touch on safety and choices of finishing products for turned items.

Join South Kansas Woodturners for their regular Monthly Meeting. This is always the 3rd Saturday Morning, each month. The meeting starts at 9:00 am till 11:30 or Noon.

We have a short business meeting, then do our Show and Tell of their latest turnings by our members. We hear what they learned, what they might do differently for the next one and get our questions answered.

After a break and individual discussions, the club presents a demonstration about wood turning. Usually 1 1/2 to 2 hours in length, one of the members presents a turning project. Mounting method, tools and approaches to actual turning, are shown and discussed. Some Demonstrations are more actual turning, others demonstrate methods balanced with actual turning, and some can feature more info about the methods and technical aspects of mounting, rather than actual turning.

This meeting is open to the Public and Members of MakeICT are encouraged to coe and see how Woodturning might be a way for each to create.

This meeting is Kid Friendly, and parent(s) should attend with them.

My name is Scott Sullivan. I am one of the co-leads of the Ceramics Studio. I have been throwing pottery on and off since 1986. I studied ceramics initially in Japan.

This class is a two part class that will be held on a Monday and the immediate following Thursday evening. Attendance at both sessions is necessary.

The first part will go over the basics of throwing a simple pot on the electric pottery wheel. This will include how to set up, tear down, and clean the wheel, as well as an introduction to the basic tools used in pottery throwing.

The second part will be basic instruction on trimming the pot(s) that were thrown in the first part on Monday. This will include basic instruction on using the wheel and trimming tools to clean your pot and put a foot on it.
After you have completed both parts of this class, you will have a piece that will be ready to be bisque fired. After that, you’ll need to come back and glaze your piece so it can be bisque fired. You can do that on your own, or on a Maker Monday or Ceramics Tuesday when there will be folks in the studio who can give you pointers. Glazing is out of scope for this class.

You do not need to bring any materials or tools. Everything will be provided.

You will be working with wet clay and you will get dirty. Please dress appropriately.
