Would you like to get some practise in with an angle grinder? Join the metalshop lead Rustin Atkeisson in this 'come and go' style event to learn the basics of using an angle grinder as well as help us recycle some of the scrap metal around the maker space.

Come at any time in the two hour period for some 1 on 1 instruction and supervision.

Actual training takes under 10 minutes.

Metalshop safety is recommended but not required.

Safety glasses are required.

3D Printing Basics

Learn the basics of 3D printing and how to use the printers at MakeICT!

We'll cover how 3D printing works, materials used in 3D printing, importing 3D files into slicer software, and important techniques for successful printing. Each participant will get a chance to practice with the software and print a small object to take home. Sample models will be provided, but participants may also bring in an STL file of a small (~3cm3) object to try out.

Completion of this class will grant authorization for using the 3D printers at MakeICT.

Laser Cutting Basics

This class will teach participants how to use the 80 watt CO2 laser cutters at MakeICT. We will be using the LightBurn software to create and cut a simple project.

Participants will learn the capabilities of the laser cutter, machine and material safety, and operation of the machine in Cartesian (flat) mode. All participants will complete a small project to practice running the machine.

Please bring a USB flash drive if you have one. Completion of this class grants the necessary authorization to use the laser cutter.

Learn how to use the cnc plasma with fusion 360. We will walk through the basics of programming a file in fusion 360 and cutting it out on the plasma cutter. Please view the wiki page as it has the material we will be using in class. Will move quickly through it so its nice to know it beforehand!

Learn to Solder and Make An LED Sculpture

Come hang out and create an artistic LED sculpture! Iā€™m Kez and I will be your adventure guide for this course!
We will navigate incredibly Basic Electronics, learn the Zen of Soldering, express ourselves with CAT5 cable, and throw all precision to the wind when we get out the Hot Glue Guns.
Boring Technical Stuff:
Learn to solder by soldering wires and resisters together to form an LED project, attaching a power cord, and using hot glue as insulation and bottom weight.
No programming or prior electronics experience needed. This will be USB port powered. This class will involve using a hot soldering iron and hot glue gun.
Kids 12 and older are welcome, but they MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult, who will supervise them.

Cutting and Cabbing Stones

Our jewelry shop lead will be teaching the beginner basics of cabochon cutting and grinding on the cabbing machine. We will start from a rough stone and cut it into a slab on one of the saws. Next we will trim the slab into a shape and polish it on the cabbing machine. This will give you the chance to customize your jewelry from any rough stone into a finished cabochon before setting.
