It’s a great way to experience the makerspace and the maker culture in person. Come tour our shops and see our brand new facility at 5920 E. Mt. Vernon. You’ll learn all about our makerspace, tools, policies, people, and how we operate.
Our tours are free and open to the public. While you are welcome to just show up, we prefer that you register in advance so we have enough members on hand to assist with our tours. Sessions are at 7 and 7:30.
If you wish to begin your membership at Maker Monday we will have members here to sign you up.
You are welcome to hang out and chat after your tour. There’s always something interesting going on at Maker Monday!

Gameboy Macro [Ben Rogers]

A Gameboy Macro is a modified Nintendo DS console that has had it’s top screen removed and a resistor inserted so that it still boots through the system checks without a top screen. The Gameboy macro is intended to play Gameboy advance games using original Nintendo hardware emulation.
The class will cover working with very small screws, taking out screens, shell modification and a tiny bit of soldering of a resistor and a speaker wire.
Every participant will leave with a working gameboy macro (that needs a bit of cosmetic touch up from removing the top screen). If anything breaks during reassembly I will have spare parts to ensure everyone completes the project.
All ages are welcome, but minors must have parents in the room (solderless options available).

Learn the parts of your sewing machine along with knowledge about bobbins, needles, about decorative stitches, and a little sewing machine history. No previous machine knowledge required. Use one of the classroom machines or bring your own. You will need tools to take out your needle, extra bobbins, and thread.

Two sessions Friday 10-12 and Friday 12:30-2:30
In this class students will make a pillow using a pattern. You will learn proper cutting techniques, pattern markings, how to mark seam allowance on their machine, top stitching, how to install a centered zipper, how to use tracing wheel and paper, and machine applique with a satin stitch.
Basic understanding of sewing machine operation required.
Supplies 2/3 yard print fabric preferably woven quilt weight 1/3 yard solid fabric letter, pocket, handle preferably woven quilt weight 18" regular zipper Thread regular sewing thread for seams, installing zipper, top stitching pocket, and stitching around letter. There are some supplies available in textiles. Pillow insert will be provided.

Learn the basics to safely operate the major woodshop tools in this safety class including understanding the limitations of each tool, the forces created when using the tool and how to maintain safe control for improved performance. Tools covered: SawStop table saw, drill press, band saw, router table, jointer, planer, miter saw, oscillating spindle and belt / disk sanders and scroll saw. Expect at least two hours of walkthrough with our tools and equipment, followed by an OPTIONAL hour of hands on practice with the tools aimed at those who have little or no practice with woodworking tools
Prerequisites: Please read the woodshop tool access policy and safety requirements on the wiki page prior to coming to class. Safety Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): • Mandatory: Closed-toed shoes, eye protection, short sleeves • Advisable: Hearing protection
Upon completion of the safety demonstration you can use this woodshop equipment for your projects whenever you work at MakeICT as a member!

Powder Coating Basics

This class will cover safety of the powder coating area, powder coating gun, air compressor and the powder coating oven. You will get to powder coat an item to take home to show off to your friends! Once you complete this class you be authorized to use the powder coating equipment.
Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a “skin”. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Powder coating is mainly used for coating of metals.
Metalshop safety must have been completed to take this course.

This class will teach you the basics for Metal Inert Welding (MIG) and set up on the Miller 211 welder. We will cover use of the Hot Area and welding safety. Once you complete this class you will be authorized to use the MIG welders in the metal shop. Long sleeves are recommended. If you have your own welding helmet and gloves you welcome to bring them.

Learn the basics of TIG welding and how to use an angle grinder. We will cover how to setup the machine, prepare tungsten, and cleaning metal with the angle grinder. After that we will get to welding, covering basic welds for a variety of joints and materials with and without filler. This is a hands on class to get you comfortable with welding and grinding and show you the basics of what you need to know to make a successful weld. The class is from 5-6 but I will be around from 6 till 8-9ish so feel free to practice and ask questions as needed. Please wear long sleeves (cotton or leather preferred), jeans without holes, and decent shoes/boots (leather preferred)

Are you a textile aficionado? Do you dabble in the textile arts? Are you looking for a tribe to encourage and inspire your fiber artistic creativity? Or do you have questions about textiles you need answered? Once a month we will get together to encourage each other to explore fiber in it's many forms and work through our UFOs(unfinished fiber objects). So come play with your yarns, thread, cloths, felts, or fibers in whichever state they exist. Hand, machine, and print work encouraged.
