This is a Classroom Section for the Class, which will be followed up, with a hands on Section at another date.
Topics include:
- Stability, usability, size, shape
- Intended Use of the Bowl
- Selection of wood species, including color, grain
- Specific Issues with a specific blank
- Identifying defects
- Determining a specific piece of wood, would make a better ????
- Moisture Content considerations
- Mounting Choices with safety and completing the planned bowl
- Advantages and Disadvantages of Starting
- Between Centers
- Screw Chuck
- Faceplate, with screws or glue block
- Advantages and Disadvantages of a choice
- Tenon / Spigot
- Mortise / Recess
- Reverse Turning To Finish the bottom
- Sanding to clean up Tool Marks and prep for a finish
- Choices about which finish product to use.

This class will not cover, spalted, or wood with defects. Those are not introductory topics.
At the end of class, a list of times for the Part 2 sections will be available for your choice. Part 2 is limited to 3 students, to allow enough time for each student. The part two will be scheduled for 3 - 3.5 hours.
Cost $40.00 for both sessions.
Woodshop Safety and Lathe Authorization are required. Part 1 will be held in the Classroom 3. Part Two in the Lathe room.
