Empty the dust collector barrel before it's full

I suppose I’m to blame for not finding this sooner, but I don’t know how long it’s been this way. I did notice last night that the dust collector had very little suction. When I checked the filters, they were packed completely full with sawdust and chips. This happens when the barrel is allowed to fill up completely, and then you keep going. I’ll have to remove the filters to finish cleaning all of the debris from between the pleats. I’ll try to do that today or this evening. Until then, I’ll be locking out all machines that use the dust collector.

It took several minutes of digging before the debris that was packed into the filters would finally fall free. This was just the first half of what was in there!

All but a couple inches at the bottom of this barrel are from what was filling the filters.

Laziness has consequences for those that aren’t.

I will amend this statement though. That barrel is heavy and I know that I have struggled to dump it by myself when it reaches full. I know that we have a spare barrel so you could just change them out and leave the full one for stronger bodies. I guess I’m saying that laziness might not be the only thing at work here. Unfortunately, all of the tools that would help you to dump a heavy barrel are pretty unwieldy.

You are appreciated!
