Several weeks ago, a person (acknowledgement to follow later) very kindly donated an inoperative SmartTech.com 600 Series Touchscreen, in the hope that it could either be repaired or used for parts. It turns out that it was repairable, lucky for us! My intention is to make this item available to everyone in one of the classrooms (maybe #3?)
This board is about 5 ft wide and 3 ft high, and is intended to be used with a projector focused on it. So it works best with small groups because of the small screen size. It could also be used while projecting larger, onto a wall, but it would require a second projector, one smaller one for the presenter and the touchscreen, and a larger projector for the wall. We’d also need a dual-output HDMI duplicator.
This Touchscreen can help presenters by not only acting as a mouse and virtual keyboard, but also simulating four colors of markers, four colors of highlighters, and an eraser. It might also offer “ink” that fades after a few seconds, and maybe a magnifier, I’m not sure, I haven’t read everything it can do.
I have temporarily borrowed the Flat-screen TV Cart donated by LaDeana (which was in classroom 2), and put the Touchscreen (from Electronics) on it, and moved the assembly to classroom 3 for now.
We can sort all this out later if anyone is unhappy for any reason.
If there are any potential users of this touchscreen that would like to get together and see a demonstration, and try it out for themselves,
I have put a time on the calendar: Monday, May 12, 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm, just ahead of the Leads and Chairs Meeting. Everyone is welcome. Thanks!
