I have a small job where I need to cut a piece of plastic on a band saw or other tool that can give me a square cut. Would it be appropriate to use the wood shop saw, or the metal shop saw, or ???
I’m assuming you’ve been through the authorization for the area you want to use, either wood or metal.
A wood cutting bandsaw can be used for plastic. You could also use a bandsaw in the metal shop but it will cut slower. Regardless of which shop you use, please be sure to clean up after yourself. Some plastic tends to develop a lot of static cling and will stick to everything.
Note that cutting plastic on the table saw runs the risk of tripping the brake, making it an expensive cut, so I would agree that one of the bandsaw is the right tool.
I am authorized for both areas. I just wanted to check there wasn’t a ban on plastics in the wood area before I started. I always leave an area cleaner than I found it
Don’t use the saw stop. Plastic might trigger it.
