Where is a good place in Wichita for a 12 year old to go to start learning coding?
Quite a few of the middle schools have VEX robotics teams. It’s very highly district dependent around here but FIRST and BEST are other robotics programs.
Hmmm… I went looking for local coding camps/programs… but didn’t find any. The library didn’t appear to have any… but I know they have some special teen programs… so you might check with the Advanced Learning Library… I know they have computers.
(If you strike out everywhere, I expect we could get a kid coding group together… talk to me if we don’t find an existing program.)
Have you tried TinkerCAD? I have not used the code portion but it is free to use and there are lots of tutorials.
You could also join in with the kid on the Python class I have going on Saturday afternoons. If you have a kid that is serious, then they will probably beat out the adults
If you google Wichita Evolve Guide you will find yourself looking at the (i think) quarterly publication of various local classes, and the Library holds numerous computer education classes geared at young and older folks to learn tons of different tech stuff. These almost all have a fee, but seem like worthy events.
Too late for this year, but WSU runs some engineering summer camps that, IMO, can be really good (full disclosure: I used to direct a couple of these)
