Hi- I am looking to commission someone to create a plastic piece (see images) for me. It broke and i believe a 3D replica would be great. I am local and can provide the piece that can be looked at/replicated. Would like (3) of them created so i have a few spares. Thanks in advance.
There’s a few ways to recreate this. Depending on the application, a 3d printed part might be the best. It looks like a cam for something. Some plastics don’t do well in a rubbing/abrading situation. If there’s a load on it, some 3d printing structures don’t have sufficient internal support for it and will crush. If it’s a part that sits in the dash of a vehicle, some plastics will distort in the heat.
Tldr: tell us more about what the item does it what kind of plastic you would like it to be made from.
Thanks! About an inch across? A 3d printed part is probably sufficient then. There are people better able to do that than me. I have 5 3d printers but there are people better at using them than I am. I don’t know what filaments we have at makeict but there again, somebody might have better selections at home.
I can give it a try, it looks simple enough. I’ll model it up and I can print some in PETG, if it breaks then at least you have the model and can find somebody with a better printer.
Message me with where you’re at or email Kim at makeict.org
I’ll do it for a pay-what-you-want donation to the makerspace.
