Cleaning up (Again)

Is there a particular reason that cleaning up after yourself seems to be so very, very difficult at MakeICT? Is it because paying a membership gives a sense of entitlement? Is it that people think their Mommy is going to clean up after them? Is it that cleaning is “Beneath” them? Is it just plain being lazy? Inquiring minds want to know!!! In this case they did get halfway there, I will say it again for those in the back “Tools do not have to be bone dry to put away!” If you don’t put it away, some else has to clean up after you.

Really?!?!

The lid off glaze is particularly egregious. Literally just messing things up for others for what…

I’ve also noticed messes being left behind with increasing frequency. Often when I arrive, there is dried clay on the wedging tables and other work areas. I don’t think anyone wants dried clay and debris embedded in their clay.

Cleaning and caring for the studio equipment is part of the craft and working in a shared community space. Taking a few extra minutes to fully clean your area helps keep the studio functional, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.

This level of cleanup would generally be expected in any pottery studio, and I think it’s important that we hold ourselves to that same standard.

And… today… this is what I find

Im sorry, bit this kind of pisses me off. I washed all my brushes and stir sticks and sponges and bowls but I left those there to dry, bc I aleady put what was there drying away. I also moved the towels to the dryer when I got there and then folded all of them and brought them into the studio when they were done. I wipe my table down and cleaned up the mess I made. You are not the only one cleaning. I brought my own glazes in and left it cleaner than my area was. This is insane to complain about some brushes in the drying rack.

I accidentally left the wasabi glaze out it was an honest mistake and wont happen again. I will happily replace It with a brand new one. I feel so terrible Im so sorry. I get paid later this week and will bring a fresh one.

Mistakes happen. More diligence helps, but the bigger issue is that from a leadership perspective, it feels like it’s all the time. We just discussed people cleaning up after themselves, and the majority of members do a great job. But it only takes 1 person leaving a mess easy l every day to make it feel like the space is always a mess.

Cleaning is an ongoing issue throughout Make ICT. Tools can be put away damp, the person before you didn’t put their tools away and then you did it, you didn’t put yours away and I had to do out. Shared spaces work best when everyone cleans up after themselves and then the next person doesn’t have to do it for them. The studio is seeing an increase in people using the facility and concurrently an increase in the area not being cleaned. This was not directed at you specifically as I did not know who did it, I could have picked most days I walk in the studio to take a picture. It is unfortunate that you feel singled out, it is a bigger issue than a few brushes left in the rack. I bring this point up during every authorization class that I do. Thank you for the cleaning that you said you have done.
