People in the vinyl cutting class were curious. After taking a cricut intro course I will say yes, the cricut will probably be better for many of the uses mentioned than the big machines.
We have a cricut maker 3, which means beyond cutting paper and vinyl, it can cut, draw, score, deboss, engrave, and foil a variety of materials, including fabric, leather, wood veneer, and even some metals.
There is a print to cut option for stickers so you can move them from the printer to the cricut to make shaped sticker sheets.
The biggest problem so far is the design space software sucks. Thankfully you can import svgs from things like inkscape or illustrator, but you have to print through the circuit design space. There is some learning curve to getting the design space to do what you want.
So if you want to do smaller sized, detailed projects, you might keep an eye out for more classes.
